The fire that continues to burn on the ship Felicity Ace, burns many millions of euros in damage to the VW.
Closing seven days after the fire broke out on the ship Felicity Ace, off the Azores, VW is beginning to measure the consequences of this great catastrophe for the company itself.
The ship transported more than 4,000 cars of the VW group from Germany to Americamany of which were from the company’s luxury brands, such as Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley.
The devastation is particularly great and the most pessimistic estimates raise it from $ 250 to $ 400 million. The latter amount is estimated by the company Russel Group, which estimates that all the cars transported by the ship will be damaged when the fire is completely extinguished.
These amounts do not include the large losses that agents will suffer in the US, while not calculating any rescue or environmental costs. Costs will also arise from the extinguishing process as well as for the Portuguese authorities who rushed to help.
The ship continues to burn unruly, while the company to which it belongs announced that two large fire engines have arrived at the scenewhich pour large amounts of water.
Alongside a group of rescuers has been found on the ship and special units in an effort to bring down the very high temperatures that prevail inside the ship.
The company has announced that there are no oil spills at sea while the ship remains stable, without having taken any inclination. However the business is expected to last many more days, up to weeks, given that in addition to cars there was also an unspecified number of batteries inside the ship which further complicate the extinguishing process.
