After the official unveiling, Volkswagen has just released some more data about what is already described as “the return of an icon” – the ID.Buzz, a kind of reinterpretation of the once famous ‘Pão de Forma’. Its launch on the market, it is now known, will take place with two versions, 82 kWh battery and a power in the order of 204 hp.
As a presentation scheduled for March 9, 2022the Volkswagen ID.Buzz is, at this moment and according to the German brand, in the final stage of development, which is being carried out with several pre-production units, “parading” through cities such as Barcelona, Paris, London and others.
As revealed by the head of Vehicle Development at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Kai Grünitz, “before we started full production of the ID. Buzz, these latest tests with vehicles that practically fully correspond to the full production specification, become a indispensable contribution to the final tuning.“
So, despite the colorful camouflage, everything points to the fact that, for example, the current exterior lines of the pre-production ID.Buzz, little or nothing change in the final version of the model. And this, regardless of the version chosen, since, as Volkswagen also advances, the vehicle will be marketed, from the beginning, in two versions: the Passenger ID.Buzz and the Cargo ID.Buzz.
Plenty of space, also for luggage
In fact, and to benefit from this versatility, the promise of a length of 4,712 mm, as well as a wheelbase of 2,988 mm, with the fully glazed five-passenger version being 1 mm taller (1,937 mm versus 1,938 mm), due to slight changes to the chassis. already in width, the same 1,985 mm, with both versions being able to “wear” rims whose dimensions range from 18 to 21 inches.
In the cargo chapter, the promise, in the five-seater version, of a luggage space with up to 1,121 liters, while, in the ID.Buzz Cargo, equipped with a partition, the cargo space can be over 3.9 cubic meters.
With rear-wheel drive… and 204 horsepower
Admittedly inspired by the iconic T1, the new model not only adopts, among other things, the unmistakable front with its V-shape, but also and from the well-known MEB platform, the rear-wheel drive that was already part of the original model.
Powering the vehicle is an exclusively electric power train, supported by a Li-ion battery pack, located under the floor, with a gross capacity of 82 kWhhow electric motor, integrated in the rear axle, providing a power in the order of 150 kW, that is, 204 hp. Along with a torque of 310 Nm.
As for benefits, Volkswagen announces for ID.Buzz a electronically limited top speed of 145 km/h, not providing, however, values such as the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. Leaving, yes, only the guarantee that the “new T1” will be able to do U-turn in just over 11 meters.
Finally, and about charging solutions, the Volkswagen announces the ‘Plug & Charge’ function for the new ID.Buzz, which guarantees automatic vehicle authentication at fast charging stations, thus eliminating the need to enter all the data necessary to start the operation.
At the same time, the ID.Buzz will also have, like the other models of the ID. software updates over wireless systemsin particular the infotainment system, charging functions and driver assistance systems. as is the case of new ‘Trained Parking’ function, i.e. automatic maneuvers to enter and exit parking spaces; ‘Car2X’, synonymous with warnings and warnings of danger in the vicinity; and the latest version of ‘Travel Assist’, which facilitates forward and lateral guidance, partially automated, at all speeds.
Finally, as for the market launch, Volkswagen reveals that the ID.Buzz should go into production next September, how market launch to take place shortly after, in the middle of autumn.
