THE Audi presents the renewed A8, giving a clear position on how a modern model of prestige should be. Modern design and application of the most advanced technologies, were the spearhead of the brand from Ingolstadt to the relaunch of its top sedan. Digital lighting technologies, with new headlights and taillights, top road behavior and an unsurpassed sense of luxury inside, offer a unique experience whether one is driving or enjoying the ride from the back seat.
The A8 was first presented in 2017. From the beginning, the brand’s intention was to use the model as a platform for demonstrating technological superiority, an ideal coexistence of unparalleled comfort with sporty features, something that becomes more apparent in the renewed A8who has just started his international trading career.
Externally, the model stands out from them Digital Matrix LED headlights, the redesigned and wider grille Singleframe, the most upright side air intakes. Its flat profile while the wide wheel arches indicate the standard quattro all-wheel drive. At the back, lights YOU ARE, chrome details and a light strip from end to end, give a special design identity, complemented by a large diffuser. For the first time, an external S line package is available as a “bridge” to the dynamic S8 version.
The dimensions of the 58% aluminum model have changed little. The A8 has a wheelbase of 3.00 meters, length 5.19 m, width 1.95 m and height 1.47 m, while the S8 is about one centimeter longer. For the passenger cabin, extremely rigid frame with hot-formed steel and polymer materials reinforced with carbon fiber have been used.
Internally, the design is characterized by horizontal architecture, offering a strong sense of spaciousness. Atmospheric lighting, extremely comfortable seats with 18-point back massage, electrically adjustable headrests, specially designed footrest offering massage for the passenger behind the passenger, four-zone automatic air conditioning, complemented by a refrigerator in the rear seats with mini-bar.
THE Audi has equipped the new A8 with the most modern operating technologies: Audi virtual cockpitaugmented reality head-up display, touch response control MMI, with two screens (10.1 ”and 8.6”) and physical voice control. The standard MMI Navigation plus third generation (MIB 3) supports Car-2-X services. Two 10.1 ”screens with Full HD resolution, are attached to the back of the front seats and in combination with an advanced Bang & Olufsen audio system with a 1,920 Watt amplifier and 23 speakers, provide driver and passenger entertainment.
At the level of propulsion systems, all have mild hybrid technology (MHEV) as standard, which uses the main 48 Volt electrical system. In terms of petrol engines, the model is available with either the 3.0 TFSI V6 engine or the eight-cylinder 4.0 TFSI, with cylinder on demand technology. The Audi A8 55 TFSI quattro with a three liter engine has a power of 340 PS (250 kW). 500 Nm of torque is delivered in the range of 1,370-4,500 rpm, acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 5.6 seconds. The corresponding numbers for A8 60 TSFI quattro with the 4.0 TFSI it is 460 PS (338 kW) and 660 Nm of torque (at 1,850-4,500 rpm), 0-100 km / h in 4.4 seconds.
The 3.0 TDI diesel engine equips the A8 50 TDI quattro, with a power of 286 PS (210 kW) and 600 Nm of torque. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds while electronically the top speed is limited to 250 km / h, as in all A8 models.
The Audi A8 60 TFSI and quattro is the plug-in hybrid model (PHEV) of the range, with a compact electric motor supporting 3.0 TFSI. The lithium-ion battery on the back can now store purely 14.4 kWh (gross: 17.9 kWh) of energy. With 462 PS (340 kW) and 700 Nm of torque, the Audi A8 60 TFSI e quattro accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds.
At the top of the range is Audi S8 TSFI quattroby V8 biturbo to produce 571 PS (420 kW) and 800 Nm of torque (at 2,050-4,500 rpm), with acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 3.8 seconds, with the flaps in the exhaust system emphasizing a bass sound.
For his gear changes Audi A8 takes care of a fast eight-speed tiptronic. Four-wheel drive quattro with locked center differential is standard, with optional sports differential (standard on the S8) with active torque distribution between the rear wheels.
In the field of posting, except Audi drive Select and the drivers it offers, worth mentioning is the active proximal suspension. It can charge or unload each wheel with additional power separately via an electric motor, thus actively adjusting the position of the chassis in any driving position. The large sedan turns steadily, with small angles of inclination when cornering, as the predictive active suspension raises the side of the chassis on the outside of the curve and lowers the opposite side, tilting up to three degrees. At the same time, with the help of a front camera, the irregularities on the road are recognized, with the car essentially eliminating the potholes on the road. Finally, for easy entry and exit from the car, the body goes up and down up to 50 mm.
At the level of safety and driver assistance, about 40 systems are available, either standard or optional. Indicatively, the standard are Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense front, while for ease of selection many are grouped in packages. Remarkable is the remote park assist plus, which can automatically maneuver the large sedan in and out of a parking lot, without the need for the driver in the car.
The new Audi A8 is expected in Greece in the spring, when the proposed retail prices by Kosmocar-Audi will be announced, with simultaneous start of orders.
