After several years of manufacturing sports cars with large V8 engines, AMG has just presented its second electric car in half a year – the EQE. Model in which the usual recipe was used, in this case, applied in two versions – 43 and 53 4MATIC -, both with more power, different ground connections from the standard version, and distinctive aesthetic details.
Not a long time ago, an AMG model was synonymous with a big engine, with a lot of torque and with the characteristic bubbling of a V8. However, Times change and the performance division of Mercedes-Benz just unveiled the AMG EQE, shortly after announcing its first tram.
Despite the absence of engine noise, a AMG used the usual formula and extracted (much) more power from the two electric motors that equip the EQE. According to motor1thanks to the adoption of these two electric motors, with changes such as new coils and specific inverters, the AMG manages to reach 476 hp and 858 Nm of torque, in the case of the most “basic” version, EQE 43 4MATIC, while the EQE 53 4MATIC+ reaches 617 hp and 950 Nm. at 292 hp of the base version, which has a single electric motor.
However, in case this upgrade does not arrive, there will still be an optional package called Dynamic Plus, available only for the EQE 53 4MATIC+, whose function boost will allow the power to be boosted to 687 hp, in addition to adding 50 Nm to the torque, which thus increases to 1000 Nm.
With installments (and suspension) to match
Thanks to this attribute, the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ Dynamic Plus should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds (provided that the batteries are at least 70% charged), while the version without the optional package it should stay for 3.5 seconds. The EQE 43 4MATIC, on the other hand, will stay at 4.2s, requiring only that the battery charge is not below 50 percent.
It already has a price. Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ available in Portugal
Differences, too, as the speed increases, with the EQE 43 not exceeding 210 km/h, while the EQE 53 can either stay at 220 km/h or reach 240 km/h. Result, once again, of the presence, or not, of that optional package.
As usual and, in this case, regardless of the version chosen, the suspension also deserved the attention of the Mercedes performance division. With the AMG EQE receiving several changes to the front and rear suspension, which include stiffer axle sleeves, suspension links and stabilizer bars. The bushings were also replaced by firmer ones with lower tolerances, and adaptive dampers were fitted, with two valves to limit the pressure.
In conjunction with the different driving modes, These solutions make the AMG EQE firmer and closer to the ground, with benefits for cornering and aerodynamics..
Even so, even the smallest aerodynamic resistance does not work miracles, and the range of the AMG EQE will be much lower than that of the normal model. Mercedes-AMG advances with values between 444 and 518 km, the result of a battery of 90.6 kWh, that is, far below the 659 km proposed by the normal EQE. Although with this new electric sports car benefiting from the possibility of fast charging with powers up to 170 kW, it only takes 15 minutes to guarantee energy for another 180 WLTP kilometers.
Balanced aesthetic changes
In terms of appearance, the changes are subtle, making a difference and optimizing the effect of downforce, without spoiling the aerodynamics.
In addition to the black grille, with vertical bars and the AMG symbol, there are novelties such as the rear diffuser, new rims or a small spoiler in the trunk.
Inside, the usual upgrades are present, such as the sports seats, the flat-bottomed steering wheel, or the combination of dark surfaces with red accents.
The connectivity system includes AMG-specific functions and there is a set of artificial sounds, called AMG Sound Experience, depending on the selected driving mode.
With date and price to be defined
Now unveiled, yet to be known, both the launch date of these two Mercedes-AMG EQEs on the market and their final price remain.
