A new straight-six engine will soon join the US lineup Stellantis. the motor will be presented for the very first time at new york auto showfrom April 15 to 24, 2022. As mentioned, it will initially be introduced in the models on sale in the American market, but given its hybrid nature, a future arrival in Europe is not excluded.
The six-cylinder revolution
Rumors in recent months speak of a unit dubbed “Tornado” which will use a motor 3-litre 6-cylinder turbo with an architecture 48V mild hybrid. This newly designed engine should be mounted under the hood of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L 7-seater (not for Europe).

Later it should also be adopted by the most imposing Grand Wagoneer and the muscle cars Dodge Charger and Challenger. In the future it could also be mounted on pick-ups Ram. The new engine should gradually replace the V8 5.7but the numbers and expected performance are still unclear.
Farewell to the V8, but the sportiness remains
In the house of V8s, a major change is therefore in preparation. Stellantis will not be the first to bet on 6 cylinders, however, since for several years its rival Ford has been equipping its most powerful vehicles with V6 engines, such as the super pick-up Ford F-150 Raptor, the new Bronco Raptor and the hypercar GT.
Given the presence of an electric unit, the propulsion unit could also come to us, on the Old Continent, perhaps in the more powerful versions of the five-seater Grand Cherokee or for other powerful models of the Stellantis galaxy.
In any event, the gradual farewell to the 8-cylinder engine will not mean the end of the muscle cars Americans. Dodge has already announced an electric muscle car for 2024, and the Ram Revolutiona large battery-powered pickup with an 800 km range, is expected to debut the same year.
