Made popular by manufacturers such as Land Rover or Volkswagen, the Cabriolet SUV concept was born, however, within another car brand. In fact, Porsche could have been a pioneer (also) in this niche segment, but eventually abandoned the Cayenne Cabrio.
For a few years now, there is a type of model with clear supremacy over all others, at least in terms of sales. It is, of course, the SUV, which has already been deployed, however, in several different configurations – there are small, medium and even 7-seater SUVs, and, there was also another variant, which never had the same level of success: the convertible SUV.
Although there are currently some proposals of this type, as is the case of the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio or the Range Rover Evoque Cabriothere was a brand that had this idea before all others: Porsche.
Or Porsche Cayenne was, together with the Boxster, Porsche’s lifelineallowing it to continue to develop models like the 911, and to depend less on them for survival.
Third member of the Taycan family. Porsche presents the Sport Turismo
Currently in its third generation and twenty years after its launch, this SUV from the Stuttgart brand has brought with it several novelties, even receiving versions diesel e hybrids.
However, the brand’s greatest experience with this model was, without a doubt, the Cayenne Cabrio. A variant that, according to the diarymotor, was even developed by the manufacturer in Zuffenhausen, and even resulted in a prototype. Which, however, never made it to the production stage.
For the rest, and on this prototype, the images that show a front equal to that of the “closed” model, combined with a side which, indeed, announced several changes, such as the disappearance of the B pillars and the rear doorsplus option of a canvas roof.
The rear, in turn, shows two distinct stylistic solutions, since Porsche had not yet made a final decision.
As for the engines for this Porsche Cabriolet SUV, rumors point to the marca de Zuffenhausen would have already made a decision, although he never released any technical information, as he kept the project in the drawer. Moreover, it is important to remember that the German brand had just launched what was its first SUV, itself, a risky bet, taking into account the manufacturer’s tradition.
However, time ended up positively sentencing the boldness of the German sports car brand, making this one of the most successful models of the manufacturer, surpassing, already in 2020, the brand of the a million of units produced. in 2020.
A number that, of course, the iconic Porsche 911, for example, has already surpassed… although it took 53 long years to do so!
